PedNet and Sudwerks Brewing Co. Create “Hindman Junction” Beer!

"Hindman Junction" Beer

Sudwerk/PedNet “Hindman Junction” Session IPL will be released on July 2nd! Portions of proceeds from all draft and package sales will be donated to PedNet.

The Taste

“Hindman Junction” Session IPL is a hop-forward, aromatic IPL that is as unique as the place it is inspired by. Its hop profile includes Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe, which create a harmonious blend of piney, citrus, and tropical  flavors. It is crisp, dry, and clean. You’ll find yourself going back for another sip as soon as the first one leaves. Hindman Junction Session IPL is the perfect beer for sitting outside on the patio and soaking in all of life’s simple moments. It was made for savoring the drinking session.

The History Behind the Beer

The town of Davis is located right outside of the state’s capital, and is well-known as the “bicycle capital of the world,” including majorly developed bike trails and the U.S Bicycle Hall of Fame! To say that all things bicycles are in Sudwerk’s roots might be an understatement; their company logo even displays the California bear riding an old school pennyfarthing bicycle. Since biking holds such significance to the brewery, a partnership with Columbia, Missouri-based PedNet Coalition just made sense. PedNet is a nonprofit transportation advocacy organization that provides walking, biking, and transit solutions to meet people’s everyday transportation needs.

Why Sudwerks Brewing Co.?

Sudwerk Brewing Co has been crafting the highest quality craft lagers in Davis, CA since 1989. After 30 years, Sudwerk distributes exclusively to California, Nevada, and Missouri. Sudwerk ownership includes two University of Missouri – Columbia alumni, two Missouri S&T- Rolla alumni, and three others from the St. Louis area.

After three years of working together, PedNet and Sudwerk have decided to take their collaboration to the next level, and create a beer together to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Katy Trail. “Hindman Junction” is the intersection of Missouri’s statewide Katy Trail with the MKT Trail, the gem of Columbia’s trail system. PedNet’s founders and early partners were heavily involved in advocating for both trails, with no one having more impact than Darwin Hindman, the junction’s namesake. Named the “Father of the Katy Trail,” Darwin led the advocacy and fundraising campaign that resulted in the creation of the 240-mile trail, and later served as mayor of Columbia for 15 years. During that time and through his retirement, he remained a staunch trail advocate and was one of PedNet’s most reliable trail allies. Darwin passed away in 2019.
