Local nonprofit receives funding to support transportation advocacy
PedNet Coalition is pleased to announce that it was one of 12 organizations across the state awarded a 5-year grant through Missouri Foundation for Health as a part of their new Exemplary Advocate Cohort. Each organization selected for the cohort was chosen due to their proven advocacy expertise and success in using advocacy to build health equity.
Missouri Foundation for Health, Missouri’s largest independent philanthropic health foundation, formed the Exemplary Advocate Cohort as a new strategy to build the strength of the advocacy field in Missouri. By investing long-term in advocacy organizations and advocacy leaders, the Foundation aims to improve health through policy solutions that address underlying systemic inequities. PedNet and each of the other 11 participating organizations will receive $500,000 over 5 years.
“We are honored to be chosen by Missouri Foundation for Health for this long-term advocacy investment,” said Lawrence Simonson, PedNet’s Assistant Director and policy lead. “We know we can make great strides towards improving health equity by addressing transportation. Transportation is what connects us to jobs, education, health care, housing, and community resources.”
The grant will support PedNet’s advocacy work to increase funding for walking, biking, and public transit; expand the infrastructure network of sidewalks, protected bike lanes, trails, and public transit service; and ensure the street transportation system is safe for everyone.
