October is Way To Go To Work month!
Walk, bike or make a bus ride part of your commute in October! GetAbout Columbia’s Way To Go To Work month is full of activities to help you do just that, including brown bag lunch seminars, guided bike rides and opportunities to get FREE commuting gear.
Who can participate?
It doesn’t matter whether you prefer to bike, walk or wheel, anyone who wants to try active commuting to work can take part.
What are the benefits?
Active commuting has many benefits to offer:
- Save time and money compared to driving your own car
- Fewer vehicles on the road mean everyone gets where they're going faster
- Less congestion means a safer, less stressful commute
- Options like walking and biking are good for your health and fitness
- Fewer vehicles and less gridlock improves our air qualit

Way To Go! Cards
Whether it’s walking or biking to work once or several times a week throughout the month, set an active commuting goal for yourself and use a Way To Go! Card
as a reminder. When the month is over, bring your card to the Public Works Dept., 3rd floor, City Hall or mail it in to 701 E. Broadway, Columbia, MO, 65201 and register to win a swanky commuter bag, perfect for bicyclists and walkers alike! Cards are due on Friday, Nov 5 and the drawing will take place on Nov. 8.
Way To Go! cards are available for download at the GetAbout website or at the following locations:

Way to Go To Work Brown Bag Lunch Seminars
Get active commuting advice from people who do it every day. Learn about bike and commuting gear, safety and riding skills, and what to take to work to freshen up once you get there. We’ll even help you plan your route!
Brown Bag Lunch Seminars take place on Wednesdays, noon to 1 p.m. at the following locations.
- 10/6 - Stephens College, Windsor Lounge in Stamper Commons
- 10/13 - Columbia College, Lee Room located in Dulany Dining Hall
- 10/20 - City Hall, 3rd Floor, Public Works Conference Room 3A
- 10/27 - MU Campus, School of Engineering, Lafferre Hall, Room W1004
All Brown Bag Lunch participants receive free commuting gear like pedometers, canvas bags, bike light sets and reflective leg/arm bands.

GetAbout Columbia’s “Work the MKT!” Guided Bike Ride
Saturday, October 16
9:30 am @ Flat Branch Park Gazebo
Ever wonder how you could use the MKT and the MU Recreation Trail to get to work? Learn routes, shortcuts and secret access points on this medium-paced, 15-mile guided ride, lasting about 2 hours and ending at Flat Branch Park. Registration is not required for this ride, but a helmet is.
