Unite 4 Healthy Neighborhoods Invites Youth Involvement

EmpowerME4change, part of the PedNet Coalition’s Unite 4 Healthy Neighborhoods initiative, has an opportunity for young people ages 13 to 17 to become involved in positive ways to affect the health and well being of Columbia’s community members.

EmpowerME4change aims to engage youth in the policies that affect them, with special emphasis on nutrition and physical health. Members will learn about the factors that contribute to a person’s ability to make healthy choices, and explore their own communities to examine why it might be easy or difficult to make healthy choices.  Youth will engage in a Photovoice project to take pictures of what is going well and what needs to be changed in their communities to foster healthy eating and physical activity, and take action to create lasting change in their communities.

There is an application process and the 20 selected youth members will meet on Saturdays beginning April 9 and continuing weekly through late May to early June. They will meet at the Walton Building 300 S. Providence.

Applications due Monday, April 4th.

Contact Sam Robinson at 573-239-3887 for more information about the application process or program.
