PedNet Receives 1% For The Planet Approval
The PedNet Coalition was recently approved as a non-profit organization for 1% For The Planet, a program devoted to giving 1% of all business profits to environmental groups around the world. Joining 1,497 companies and 2,288 environmental organizations already partnered with 1% For The Planet, PedNet is now part of the network to receive funding from approved businesses for our mission: sustainable and active transportation programming and development.
Gina Overshiner, PedNet’s Bicycle Education Coordinator, said she found out about the program when applying for another grant. Overshiner filled out a six page application and described PedNet’s vision, mission, history and programming for sustainable and active transportation. 1% For The Planet reviewed the application and approved PedNet as a non-profit organization member. PedNet now has a member profile on the organization’s website that lists grant categories, methods and contact information.
Overshiner says the next step is to start writing business letters to member companies in our region who share a similar mission to ask for donations and support. All environmental organizations receive their donations directly from member companies. How much is received and how often throughout the year is up to the company and the environmental organization to decide. “People are always asking for donations,” Overshiner said, “This is a good way for businesses to know where their money is going.”
