MISSOURI RIVER AND KATY TRAIL CLEAN-UP

Date of event: Saturday 22nd May, 2004

Come down to Cooper's Landing and help Missouri River Relief clean up trash from the Katy Trail and the Missouri River on Saturday, May 22nd. Sign up at http://www.riverrelief.org.

Clean-up time: Crews will clean the river and trail from 10am to 4pm. Wrap-up and prizes (awarded for the coolest, oddest, biggest, etc. piece of trash) will be from 4pm to 6pm. Live music throughout the day.

Clean-up headquarters: Cooper's Landing (www.cooperslanding.net) is located 1.5 miles north of Easley, MO on River Road. Follow Route K south from Columbia, then make a left on Smith Feedmill Rd. Take that until you reach the river. Parking is somewhat limited, so please carpool if possible.

What we're doing: We'll clean trash from a reach of river extending from Hunstdale to the Hartsburg Access. Boats will ferry volunteers to the river banks and islands. Other volunteers, including youth groups and cyclists, will pick up trash along the shores, river roads, and along about a 6 to 8-mile stretch of the Katy Trail State Park. Feel free to bring bicycles. Families are welcome, but we request that there be one parent to one child. Also, if young children would like to go for a ride on the river please bring a child size life jacket.

A bit of history: Cooper's Landing - located about 15 miles south of Columbia - is River Relief's "home base" and the site of our first-ever Missouri River clean-up event held in 2001.
