MISSOURI BICYCLE SAFETY BILL (SB710)

25th April, 2004

Legislation supported by the Missouri Bicycle Federation (MoBikeFed) has passed the Missouri Senate and reached the House Transportation Committee. There, some opposition to portions of the bill has arisen. MoBikeFed representatives have been working on a compromise version of the bill that will satisfy the objections that have been raised.

As of 25 April 2004, the provisions that will be in the final version of the bill are:

The last two sections should make it more obvious to judges/juries/prosecutors that assault/involuntary manslaughter are appropriate charges when someone kills or injures via dangerous driving, and should make it easier to get convictions in cases where the charges are justified.

How to support this important bill

Please contact members of the House Transportation Committee with this message:

"Please support the bicycle/pedestrian/motorcycle provisions of SB710. SB710 helps clarify the responsibilities of bicyclists, pedestrians, motorcyclists, and motorists so that all can work together to make Missouri's roads safer."

There are a lot of members of the House Transportation Committee. If you're short on time, just write to a few (those closest to you, or just at random):
