Here is the schedule of events for the Mayor's Challenge: Bike, Walk, and Wheel Week. In particular, breakfast stations will be open around town on the morning of Friday May 14th.
Sunday, May 9, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. At the ARC (Clinkscales and Ash): Event Kick-off and Cycle-Recycle Honorary chair Rep. Kenny Hulshof and Mayor Darwin Hindman will officially open the event. Register for Bike, Walk, and Wheel Week and pick up your free T-shirt. Register to receive a free, secondhand bike at Cycle-Recycle. Take part in a 4-mile community bike ride at 2:45 p.m.
Tuesday, May 11, 5:30 p.m. At the ARC (Clinkscales and Ash): Mayor's Council on Physical Fitness and Health Fitness Forum Mayor Hindman will present Fitness and Health awards to 10 local citizens. Guest speaker will be Patti Ross, BES, ACSM of the MU Physical Therapy School. She will speak on "Exercise and Arthritis: Move it or Lose it".
Wednesday, May 12, Noon At the Pasta Factory (downtown): Women's Intersport Network Luncheon (reservations required)
Friday, May 14, 7:00 - 9:00 a.m. At locations throughout Columbia (see map): Bike, Walk & Wheel Day Join us at one of many breakfast stations in and around downtown as you bike, walk or wheel to your destinations. KFRU's David Lile will be broadcasting live from Boone Tavern, where the breakfast station will be open at 6:30 pm.
Saturday, May 15, 9:00 a.m. At Flat Branch Park (downtown): MKT Trail Ride/Hike Participants are invited to hike/bike as far or as fast as their ability allows.
Sunday, May 16, 2:00 p.m. At Twin Lakes Picnic Shelter (Chapel Hill Road): Final Event Rally Join us in closing Bike, Walk & Wheel Week and enjoy the music of the Ironweed Bluegrass Band. Great prizes, including new bicycles donated by Walt's and CycleExtreme, generous gift certificates from Tryathletics, gift certificates to various restaurants, Blue Note tickets, and Empire Roller Rink passes will be given away, but you MUST be present to win.
May 9 - 16 (all week)"Your Bike is Your Ticket!" Anyone utilizing bike racks on Columbia Transit buses (space available only, you cannot take your bike on the bus) rides for free to any destination on the city bus routes.
