PEDESTRIAN BEACONS

27th March 2004

Boulder, CO is installing new, pedestrian-actuated flashing beacons in center medians of crosswalks.

When a pedestrian pushes the button, lights built into the top of the yellow poles in the center median start to flash to give the pedestrian extra security as he/she uses the crosswalk. The innovation is especially effective at night when many drivers have difficulty seeing pedestrians in crosswalks.
