UNIVERSITY TRAIL RE-OPENS

Dates of Event: 15th October, 2004

The University Recreation Trail, which was temporarily closed two years ago to allow construction of the Paige Arena, will be officially open no later than October 15th.

According to University of Missouri Athletic Director Mike Alden (pictured above with PedNet member Ian Thomas on the new trail), "We are certainly very excited that the bike path will once again be open for regular use. We are sorry for any inconveniences that were caused by the construction of the Paige, but have replaced and greatly enhanced the path for what we hope will be many years of activity. The Athletic Department appreciates the support and committment of PedNet and others who promote healthy lifestyles. We look forward to many years of partnerships in these endeavors."

The black-asphalt trail starts beside Mick Deaver Drive on the east side of Memorial Stadium (pictured at right) and proceeds south to the intersection with Champions Drive. It then continues on the east side of the Mick Deaver Drive extension, around the east and south sides of the Paige Arena before resuming its original route down the hill to the Hinkson Creek Valley. With the tunnel under Stadium Boulevard, the re-opening of the University Trail effectively reconnects campus and downtown Columbia with the Hinkson Trail, the MKT Trail, and the Seven Oaks development (via the new Seven Oaks footbridge).

The University Recreation Trail is an ADA-compliant trail.
