The University Recreation Trail from Mizzou Arena to the Hinkson Creek valley has been temporarily closed.
According to the University of Missouri, the trail will remain closed until July, while an extension to Mick Deaver Drive is constructed from its existing intersection with Champions Drive down the hill to the intersection of Providence Point Road with Providence Road. The east-west trail connection from the bridge under Providence Road eastward to the recreation fields and Grindstone Nature Area has also been closed adjacent to Providence Road, but we understand that this connection will be re-opened in a couple of weeks when "blasting" is completed.
Alternative northbound routes to campus:
- From the southwest: take the MKT Trail all the way to Stewart/Providence
- From the University Recreation Trail where it passes the Tennis Center: cross the Hinkson Creek on the old Providence Road bridge, continue as it curves right to the intersection with Providence Road, turn left with traffic, ride on the Providence Road northbound shoulder, turn right into the parking lot for the football stadium, and continue left around the stadium to the tunnel under Stadium Boulevard
Alternative southbound route:
- From the tunnel under Stadium Boulevard: turn right and ride around the west side of the football stadium, take the pedestrian bridge over Providence Road (pictured), descend to the right down the ramp, turn right onto the Providence Road southbound shoulder, and turn right again at the bottom of the hill onto the old Providence Road, which leads to the trail by the Tennis Center
The University's plans for the new road include bicycle and pedestrian facilities. When construction is complete, the University Recreation Trail will be reconnected at both ends.
