CLASSES, RIDES, AND THE MIZZOU BIKEFEST

Spring, 2008


This spring, why not try out some of PedNet's healthy and active, family-friendly programs - part of the City of Columbia's GetAbout Columbia campaign. You can choose between youth and adult Bicycle Safety Programs, the Secret Access Trail Ride, and the Mizzou Bike Fest. All classes are taught by PedNet staff members, who have completed their instructor training and certification with the League of American Bicyclists (LAB).

BikePro - Bicycle Proficiency for Youth:

"BikePro" is a 4-lesson bicycle proficiency program, available for children aged 10-14. The lessons are each two hours long, and cover:

Students who pass the on-road test during the final class will be eligible to participate in PedNet's Bike Train - a mentored bike-to-school program.

All classes are held at Stephens Lake Park Activity Center, 2311 East Walnut St. Spring schedule, in partnership with Columbia Parks and Recreation Dept. (cost $10, financial assistance available):

Confident City Cycling - for Adults (15 and over):

This introductory bicycle skills program gives cyclists the confidence to ride safely and legally in traffic or on the trail. Confident City Cycling covers bicycle safety checks, fixing a flat, on-bike skills and crash avoidance techniques and includes a student manual. Recommended for adults and children above age fourteen, this fast-paced, nine-hour course prepares cyclists for a full understanding of vehicular cycling.

MKT Secret Access Trails Bicycle Ride:

This ride is for anyone who wants to have 20 miles of pure fun learning where the MKT side trails lead to. For more information about the program, call Robert Johnson at 442-7189x28. No need to register, this Ride Event is free.

The Second Annual Mizzou Bike Fest:

Bike Fest will be hosted by Sustain Mizzou on Wednesday April 16th at Lowry Mall on the MU Campus from 10:00am-3:00pm.

Students will go from booth to booth and will have their "passport" punched after getting information from each booth. Displays, bike gear, etc. available for the students to look at but nothing will be sold. Each booth will have a bike topic:

Pizza and soda provided for the students that turn in their passports.
