INTERNATIONAL WALK TO SCHOOL DAY

Dates of Event: 6th October, 2004

Wednesday, October 6th is International Walk to School Day. Millions of children and their parents in dozens of countries will be walking to school to celebrate physical activity and promote walkable communities.

The weather forecast is fine, so set your alarm clock a little earlier, eat a good breakfast, and walk your child to school. The benefits include healthy exercise, reduced traffic congestion and air pollution around school, and an opportunity to spend quality time with your child.

A special event with refreshments and prizes is being held at Grant Elementary School. Families that live too far from school to walk all the way are meeting at Office Depot at 8am to walk as a group. MU Athletic Director Mike Alden and his son Jake will be walking to school, as will Mayor Darwin Hindman.
