| PedNet Executive Director Ian Thomas and Education Coordinator Robert Johnson rode to Jefferson City on February 26 to attend Bike Advocacy Day, stopping just once, to repair a puncture in Thomas' back wheel. At the event, Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder received an award for his promotion of the Tour of Missouri bicycle race from Brent Hugh, Executive Director of the Missouri Bicycle Federation. | Also present at Bike Advocacy Day, was former Missouri Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator Caryn Giarratano. In October, 2007, Giarratano was abruptly fired by the Missouri Department of Transportation, who cited "poor communication" as the reason for her dismissal. The news shocked bicycle and pedestrian groups across the state, who have heralded Giarratano as an energetic and effective advocate. |
