Hi Everyone!

The 4th Annual Mayor's Challenge: Bike, Walk & Wheel Week is going to be bigger and better than ever, with events scheduled for every day of the week! Last year, 1,375 Columbians took part - almost doubling our numbers from the first year!

Join the growing active transportation movement, by making a special effort to get to your destination under your own power as much as possible during the week of May 7-14 - by foot, on a bike, or in a wheelchair. Get some valuable workouts, feel great, and help Columbia identify our specific community needs for safe and accessible sidewalks, bike lanes and pedways! Click here NOW to sign-up.

This year's Honorary Chair is our long-time champion and KFRU host David Lile. A keen cyclist, David has coordinated a live broadcast from Boone Tavern on each of previous three Breakfast Stations Days, and he'll be doing it again this year on Friday, May 13. More events than ever are being planned for the week - stay tuned for details as they become available! Just to give you a small idea of what we are planning, here are a few:

  • The Kick-Off will take place on Saturday May 7 at Flat Branch Park, with a Katy Trail ride. This will be a great time to pick up your event T-shirt.
  • There will be a new, FUN, team event on the Thursday evening: PedNet's Great Bike, Walk, and Wheel Scavenger Hunt. This prize contest involves:
    • Plotting points on a map
    • Biking, walking, or wheeling to downtown locations
    • Finding and solving clues
    • Collecting "treasure."
  • THE MAIN EVENT: Enjoy a free breakfast at one of our many breakfast stations around town on Friday morning, May 13, as you bike, walk, or wheel to work, school, or wherever you need to go. Locations will be posted here, in our media advertisements, and in brochures available at bike shops and sponsoring businesses around town.
  • Our final event will be held on Saturday, May 14 at Flat Branch Park with live music from IronWeed. There will be drawings for GREAT prizes donated by our sponsors - you MUST be present to win.
Details will be posted here as they become available. The committee is hard at work and many people are investing huge efforts into the success of this GREAT week, but we need YOU to participate! YOU are the reason we have organized this week, and we know you will have a great time. Mark your diaries for Saturday, May 7, and plan to help Mayor Hindman kick off our Fourth Annual Mayor's Challenge: BIKE WALK & WHEEL WEEK 2005.

If you would like to participate as a sponsor or volunteer of the event, please email me at JudyKnudy@aol.com.
