Date of Birth: 22 April, 2000 (Earth Day)
Since the PedNet Coalition was founded on Earth Day, 2000, thousands of Columbians have joined the organization; millions of dollars of funding have been dedicated to the construction of Columbia's bicycle, pedestrian, and wheelchair network as envisioned by PedNet; and discussion of the idea of a healthy, sustainable transportation system has become commonplace in the media, local government, and the general public.
The original PedNet web site (2000-2008), which was taken offline in September, 2008 and replaced with the present site is still available at www.pednet.org/originalsite. It contains hundreds of news stories and articles that document the activities of the PedNet Coalition and its successes in making Columbia a more walkable, bicycle-friendly, and wheelchair-accessible community.
